A Word from Angela M. Peabody

Greetings,

As the author of Exiled: Within the Heart of American Society and co-author of the Sarian Bouma story, “From Welfare to Millionaire", who's personal story was featured in 'O" magazine, my wish is to enrich the lives of others through the power of the written word.

I would like to announce the launch of my magazine; EYE IMAGES (imagine a world with Global vision). Look for these publications throughout the District of Columbia beginning March, 2006. Please take time to remember A. Romeo Horton. He is survived by his wife Mary Eliza Horton and their daughter Kumah. A Romeo Horton was a visionary and was best known in Liberia as founder and former president of Liberia's first indigenous bank. My prayer is that each one of you makes the choice to pursue your passion and purpose in the upcoming year. As usual, I have a ton of information to share with you. Please, continue to stay tuned for upcoming events, news and so much more. Happy New Year! – A.M. Peabody

Liberia's First Female President

As the days go by, I am anxiously awaiting the inauguration of Africa's first female president. As I ponder this history making occasion, my heart swells with pride. Liberia is my birthplace. I have seen the strength of women displayed throughout my life. My tiny mother was the pillar of our community during my childhood and she was also the mayor of Marshall. Women all over the African continent are making huge strides. We are the hand that rocks the cradle, but we are rapidly becoming the hand that signs the checks. There is no limit to the magnificent possibilities that lie in wait for each of you. Decide to be the CEO of your life. It's all about making the right choices.

"Happiness is an attitude. We either make ourselves miserable or happy and strong. The amount of work is the same." ~
Francesca Reigler

It's A New Year

Greetings Readers & Happy New Year!
This year brings many changes for women in the world. A female German Chancellor was seated in 2005 - first in German history. Liberian citizens recently made history in an unforgettable way. They elected a woman president - the first on the continent of Africa, ever. While Americans still dream about the idea of electing a female president, Liberians proudly strutted to the polls and realized that dream. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate my fellow Liberians and President-Elect, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. As they ready themselves for the biggest Liberian event in the 21st century, Liberians look forward to a revised country. For the first time, we will have the American First Lady and the American Secretary of State (the 2nd female in American history) in Liberia at the same time, along with many other foreign dignitaries. The simple things that we in the West take for granted, Liberians are elated at the prospect of having them - electricity, running water, paved roads, a reliable health system and a strong education system. Why don't we all exhibit our love for the country and help rebuild a firm Liberia? The Eye Images team and I wish you a healthy and prosperous 2006!

What A Difference A Day Makes
December 26, 2004 brought us Hurricane Katrina and devastation of unseen proportion. Just this week we witnessed the horrible entrapment of 13 miners in West Virginia. We rejoiced when we heard they were alive and felt the devastating blow when the truth was revealed. There was only one survivor. Life is filled with unpredictable twist and turn, but we must enjoy the ride. Treat each day with the respect that it deserves. Each day that you life is a precious gift to you. Dig deep into this treasure chest of possibilities and experience life to the fullest.

Together We Can Make A Difference
We are now poised at the threshold of 2006. As we center the New Year, we must make every effort seam up the great divide. We are all members of the human race. Our egos create the grandiosity that we so proudly wear. To build fruitful nations and prosperous societies we must work together. No man or woman is an island. It will be through our joint efforts, networking and professional collaborations, that Liberia shine in all her true glory.

Weight & See
New Year Resolutions will adorn our refrigerator doors like childhood pictures. Each year we make affirmations to lose 30 pounds and add walking to our daily agenda. Fast forward to February and we are already anticipating the chocolate delights of Valentine Day. Let's rethink this whole notion of resolutions. Making that long list is a set up for failure. An abrupt shift in your daily habits will trigger feelings of deprivation. A better way to approach these changes is a gradual lifestyle change. Add a more fruit and vegetables to your diet. Say no to cheese, second helpings and sugary desserts. Walk to the market and enjoy the scenery. Better yet, organize a walking group in your neighborhood. Pick up a journal at your local bookstore and keep a nightly chronicle of your eating habits. Watch you weight and you will see a world of difference in your quality of life.

Have you had your health screenings done lately? If you are a woman over 18, make sure that you schedule a pap smear as soon as possible. Over 40, it's time to add a mammogram. Over 50 add a colonoscopy. Men you must really follow suit to protect the "family jewels". At age 40 schedule your prostrate exam without hesitation. Age 50, add the colonoscopy exam. Prevention is still better than cure.
